The Inauguration and Unveiling Ceremony for the New Site of the CCCC Ethiopia R&D Center Successfully Held

Recently, the unveiling ceremony for the new site of the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Ethiopia R&D Center was grandly held, with distinguished guests from all sides gathering to jointly witness this important moment embodying strategic vision and collective wisdom.

In recent days, a grand commemoration-unveiling ceremony took place for the new location of Zhongjiao (CCCC) Group’s Ethiopia R&D Center, drawing prominent guests to share in this pivotal moment representing long-term strategic insight and collaborative intelligence.

The center is likely branded as a “(new landmark of intelligence/smart innovation), symbolizing a forward-looking hub for technology, infrastructure R&D, and China-Ethiopia cooperation under initiatives like the Belt and Road. Such events often highlight partnerships in smart cities, transportation, or innovation in Addis Ababa.

Mr. Woldu Yemessel Baraki, Director General of the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA), in his key note speech states that this partnership built on trust, a commitment to shared progress, and a vision of Ethiopia as a hub of innovation in Africa. The center stands as a beacon of collaboration, a platform for technology transfer, and a symbol a shared vision of sustainable development, he added. Besides, Mr. Woldu, the Vice President of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Ethiopia, delivered speeches at the event. They highly commended the strategic significance of the research and development center’s establishment, noting that it not only represents an extension of China Communications Construction Company’s global technology strategy but also constitutes a major contribution to innovation development, talent cultivation, technology transfer, and sustainable infrastructure construction in Ethiopia and the broader East African region. EIPA Director General Woldu specifically congratulated the center on its ten patented achievements, three of which were jointly filed with Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, hailing them as a model of industry-academia-research collaboration.
Chief Engineer of China First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., Zhao Zongzhi, together with Mr. Woldu, Director General of the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority, unveiled the plaque for the inauguration of the new site of the research and development center.

Multiple guests unanimously pointed out that against the backdrop of the shared challenges of addressing global climate change and enhancing infrastructure resilience, the establishment of such research and development centers is particularly timely. It serves not only as a platform for tackling technical challenges but also as a bridge connecting Chinese expertise with the development needs of Africa. Moreover, it acts as an incubator for fostering new quality productive forces and exploring the deep integration of the “CCCC solutions” with localized practices.

From grand vision to taking root in Ethiopia, the completion of the R&D center marks a new stage for CCCC’s deepening presence in Ethiopia, one driven by technological innovation. Looking ahead, this new landmark of wisdom is poised to attract more outstanding talents and yield greater achievements. It will inject a powerful and enduring innovative impetus into the shared development of the company and Ethiopia, jointly writing a new chapter of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.
